Anxiety disorders are highly treatable!

Anxiety often shows up as a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety itself is a very normal part of life. Humans experience anxiety as a survival instinct, to alert us when danger is present. However, sometimes life events cause disruptions in the midbrain, leading to an influx of anxious feelings that impede optimal funcitioning and even become harmful.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults ages 18 and older, or 18.1% of the US population every year.

The good news is anxiety disorders are highly treatable! Here at Aspire Counseling Denver, we use a number of techniques to treat anxiety. We implement coping skills through using CBT, comfort in the therapy room is achieved through therapy dogs, and the roots of anxiety are addressed and alleviated through the use of Brainspotting. For kids, play therapy is also incorporated in the treatment of anxiety. Faith-based therapy, when requested by the client, can also be highly successful in addressing anxious feelings.

Clients also often combine therapy with NeurOptimal® brain training. Brain training creates neuroplasticity, which promotes resilience in the brain and better communication between the brain and CNS. Neuroplasticity helps with overall brain functioning, which creates relief around feelings of anxiety!
